NextGen Stewards have a deep desire to care for working forests into the long term. Many people who are now land managers, foresters, and natural resource professionals, or who grew up with the skills of hands-on stewardship dream of becoming small forest owners. Impossibly high land prices stand in their way.
Forest Legacy Trust connects vetted NextGen Stewards to permanently protected working forests through affordable ownership pathways. These arrangements are designed to facilitate resilient, well-managed forests into the future while honoring the legacy and vision of the stewards who came before.
Our Vetting Process
All NextGen Stewards are vetted for management experience, financial readiness, alignment with conservation requirements, and the ability to carry out a long-term forest management plan. Matching is done with attention to the specific forest, its conservation values, and the previous steward’s vision.
